About me

I grew up on a farm in Othello, Washington, where I learned that the best solutions often come from thinking differently about problems. That curiosity led me from agriculture to technology, and eventually to artificial intelligence.

Today, I lead engineering teams, conduct AI research, and founded Thinking Backward to help others navigate the rapidly changing world of technology. Through writing, research, and teaching, I explore how we can break free from conventional approaches and build better solutions.

The "Thinking Backward" approach is a pattern of thinking that I employ often, and it's why I focused my research on this theme. I don't accept that the ideal is impossible. But I also understand how to get there.
